Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide built from three amino acids: cysteine, glutamate, and glycine. It sits in nearly every cell in the body and is one of the most studied molecules in redox biology. Why L-Glutathione is studied
Glutathione is investigated along two main pathways in research settings:
Free-radical scavenging. The sulfur group on the cysteine portion neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS) before they can damage DNA, proteins, and cell membranes.
Phase II detoxification. It is a key substrate for the enzyme glutathione S-transferase, which binds toxins and foreign compounds and makes them water-soluble so they can be cleared. This pathway is heavily studied in liver and metabolic research.
